The Transport Disruption ontology provides a formal framework for modelling travel and transport related events that have a disruptive impact on an agent's planned travel.
This document describes the Transport Disruption ontology, automatically generated by the LODE service (http://www.essepuntato.it/lode)
The Transport Disruption ontology is a formal framework for modelling events related to travel and transport that may disrupt the travel plans of an agent. Such events typically disrupt the supply or cost of transport, can affect single or multiple transport links in an area, and cause greater disruption to an agent’s travel plans than they would typically experience due to everyday travel variability.
The ontology is based around the DisruptiveImpact class, which captures the action of one or more events causing or tending to prevent an agent’s planned travel continuing as expected. An Event becomes a DisruptiveEvent which is the causeOf at least one DisruptiveImpact. It is the intention that the DisruptiveImpact class is extended to define the type(s) of impact relevant to each usage, such as a delayed journey or cancelled ferry crossing. The Plan class is another extension point for providing details of an agent's plan that an event may have impacted upon, such as an agent’s journey itinerary.
The ontology defines several subclass of Event, describing events that may disrupt an agent's travel plans. These are based on the analysis of published disruption information and the road disruptions described in the DATEX II (http://www.datex2.eu/) specification. Each Event is defined in terms of its time of occurrence and place (location). The sub_event property allows compound relationships between events to be modelled; for example, that a RoadClosure occurs as part of a Roadworks event. The factor property can be used to define further relationships between events, such as a SeriousAccident contributing to PublicTransportDelay.
